Why babies with Judes become diaper-free earlier
And why children in disposable diapers are now often diapered for 4 years and longer
It's normal for children to need diapers until they are 4 years old. Isn't it?
Current Research Status
Current research indicates that children are becoming potty trained significantly later since disposable diapers have become common in our society.
A larger meta-study concluded that children in disposable diapers tend to achieve dryness later. The eight studies examined show a correlation between disposable diapers and delayed continence in children.
Beth and Shefaa go a bit further in their study, discovering that the convenience of disposable diapers and training pants likely leads some parents to postpone toilet training.
The Disposable Diaper Industry's Interests
We prefer to talk about ourselves rather than other diapers. Nonetheless, we find it important to also highlight the health downsides of disposable diapers:
Every industry, every manufacturer, and every brand has its own interests. And each is influenced by those interests, whether consciously or subconsciously.
The super absorbents in diapers are now so "effective" that they almost always feel dry. We believe this is one of the reasons why children are potty training so much later today. Children can't tell when they've wet their diapers.
Disposable diaper manufacturers benefit when your child takes longer to become diaper-free.
Diaper-free Sooner with Judes Family
Children who wear Judes or combine them with disposable diapers often become potty trained 2 years earlier than those using disposable diapers alone (on average nearly 1 year earlier).
This is because children wearing Judes receive natural biofeedback from which they learn. Disposable diapers are designed to always feel dry. This means that children using disposable diapers tend to become diaper-free much later.
Our Survey with Over 3,000 Parents
We conducted a survey with over 3,000 parents. Some used disposable diapers, while others used Judes. The result is clear:
On average, children with Judes become diaper-free 8 months earlier.
Interestingly, 23% of children diapered with disposable diapers are in diapers for 3.5 years or longer (that's about one in every four children). Less than 1% of the children with Judes were diapered for more than 4 years.

Support on Equal Terms with Judes
We believe that it's important to treat even a small person as we would like to be treated ourselves. This includes changing a child regularly and at short intervals, so they do not sit in their waste for too long.
Disposable diapers are designed so that the child does not notice when they have soiled the diaper. This leads to them being changed comparatively less often. This is also a reason why disposable diapers often result in sore spots on the skin.
With Judes, your child receives a natural bio-feedback. When they have soiled the diaper, they give you signs, and you can change the diaper immediately. This also accelerates the process of becoming dry.
Diaper-Free Even Earlier with Elimination Communication
If you're interested, you can practice what is known as "elimination communication" or "diaper-free" with Judes. Cloth diapers are especially well-suited for this practice. Thanks to the wetness feedback from Judes, your child retains a sense of when they are wetting the diaper. This makes it easier for the child to communicate when they want to be held over the potty. Many parents report that their children have become diaper-free much earlier through practicing elimination communication.
